Innisheer Island, St. Ghobnait Dresses

The layered markmaking within the dress images reflect Innisheer through centuries of time from St. Ghobnait’s 5th century through to the present time. There are symbols and literal marks/references to this Holy woman, physician and beekeeper. The wax graphite medium is worked to evoke the ancient atavistic atmosphere ever present on the island. Interacting throughout are the never changing, timeless witnesses to the island; its birds, insects and fish.
